Please provide a telephone number so we can schedule the visit. To help match the visitor, we should know the age, sex, type of amputation, and the cause.
On a Peer Visit an amputee visits someone who is facing an amputation, or who has recently been through surgery. The visit can be at the persons home, the hospital, a rehabilitation facility, by telephone or via Skype. Since our certified peer visitors are using Skype, and in some cases Apple Facetime, they are able to have peer visits almost anywhere in the world! We have conducted English and Spanish Skype visits in San Bernardino, Brooklyn, Kentucky, Guatemala, and Tunisia.
ACR is spearheading this Global Outreach concept for the Amputee Coalition, along with our beta partner at Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital in San Bernardino, California.
Many of our members are Amputee Coalition certified Peer Visitors. We attempt to match the Peer Visitor with the patient as much as possible. This match is made by age, sex, and the type of amputation.
An important detail is that while at medical facilities, the patient must request the Peer Visit. This is due to the HIPPA regulations concerning patient privacy.
We invite family or caregivers to the peer visit also!
